21st Century Flavors – The mission of SanTan Spirits

We’re an Arizona distillery on a mission to create 21st Century Flavors.

More than a decade ago, we were enamored with the possibility of disrupting a stale world of beer. It was the pursuit of flavor, creative methods, and new ingredients combined with an adventurous mindset that ignited the craft beer movement. The ride has been better than we could have ever imagined.

A few years ago, we realized spirits could really use a similar shot in the arm. Like beer back then, the production and culture of spirits and distilling have been standardized for far too long. We couldn’t get over this thought of a “Spirits Revolution”. It gave us that old 2005 feeling and we couldn’t hold back. SanTan Spirits was born.

SanTan Spirits is different than other distilleries in Arizona. From the beginning, we’ve been passionate about the journey of fermentation. The simple truth is: brewers ferment grains, fermentation creates flavors, those fermented grains become beers. In spirits, distilleries use science & technology to essentially separate alcohol from fermented beers into pure “spirit”.

At SanTan Spirits, our whiskey is curated over a period of 2-4 years to achieve the flavor profile we are looking for. Our method of E’Levage involves rotating our barrels to different climates during their aging process. We have an amazing advantage here in Arizona with the dry climate and heat, it allows each batch to breath deep into the wood.

Our history in adventurous fermentation and flavor development gives us the unique ability to break the mold, rethink and not be held captive by the rigid philosophies that have kept spirits stagnant — much like beer once was.

SanTan Spirits is on a mission and journey to change the way spirits flavors are developed. To create 21st Century Flavors that people love to drink. We age our whiskey in seasoned French oak that once held world-class red wines. Indian sarsaparilla and local Arizona oranges are some of our favorite botanicals for clear spirits. Unlike any other distillery in Arizona, we are thinking from end-to-end about the flavor in its final form, crafting it with creative ingredients, methods, and select aging vessels. About SanTan Brewing Company & SanTan Spirits

Open since 2007 under the leadership of founder and brewmaster, Anthony Canecchia, SanTan Brewing Company has established a strong reputation as Arizona’s favorite craft brewery. SanTan’s award-winning brews are available throughout Arizona, including at its friendly neighborhood pubs in Downtown Chandler, Uptown Phoenix and Sky Harbor International Airport. In 2015, SanTan began distilling with a mission to create flavors for the 21st century and to reimagine what spirits could be. SanTan Spirits are distilled and aged locally in Chandler, Arizona and have earned national recognition and awards. SanTan’s mission is to create uncommon quality for everyday occasions.

In the Summer of 2019, the team at SanTan Brewing Company opened Spirit House, located directly behind their brewpub in Chandler. This warm and inviting space focuses on SanTan Spirits and craft cocktails highlighting the Arizona distillery’s own whiskies, vodkas and gins. SanTan Spirits began distilling in 2015 and has taken home top honors at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition for their Sacred Stave and Butcher Jones Whiskeys. A labor of love many years in the making. Spirit House is a delightfully charming spot to enjoy a drink in Downtown Chandler. With it’s horseshoe shaped bar, Spirit-filled chandelier, eclectic charm, guests are sure to have an amazing experience and even better drinks. Sprit House is located directly behind SanTan Brewing Company at  8 S. San Marcos Place, Chandler.

In the Fall of 2019, SanTan expanded to begin tours of their craft beer and spirits labs, tasting samples, a peek into the science and similarities behind the brewing and distilling process, and an intimate education about the history and future of SanTan Brewing Company and SanTan Spirits. SanTan Tours feature 10 stops along the brewery and distillery path. You’ll visit stations like Grain Handling, The Brewhouse, Barrel Aging, Packaging and more. At select stops, you’ll have the opportunity to taste samples of the products at various stages of production. Each tour is led by a SanTan expert who will guide you through the 35,000 sq. ft. facility and answer questions along the way. At the conclusion of the tour, relax at our tasting bar where you can purchase additional tastings, canned beers, bottled spirits and exclusive merchandise.

Our goal with these tours is to educate the public about the craft of creating artisan beer and spirits including what it takes to produce consistent, high quality and honest products,” said Anthony Canecchia, Founder + Brewmaster, SanTan Brewing Company.

Tours are offered three times per day on Saturdays and Sundays at the SanTan Brewing Production Facility, 495 E. Warner Road, Chandler, AZ 85225. At the end of the tour, guests will be able to purchase packaged products to take home and enjoy.
